1,000 Flybuys points on TCN gift cards at Coles¶
Coles is giving 1,000 bonus Flybuys points on a set of TCN category gift cards bought in-store between 22 and 28 July 2026 (OzBargain thread). The best value in the offer is the $25 TCN Party card: 1,000 points is worth $5, so a $25 outlay returns 20%. Everything else in the deal is weaker. The limit is five gift cards per Flybuys account.
What's included¶
Same 1,000-point bonus on every card, regardless of denomination:
- $25 and $40 TCN Party
- $50 Teen
- $50 and $100 TCN Her
- $50 and $100 TCN Restaurant
These are TCN's closed-network category cards, sold at face value. That is the important detail: unlike TCN's eftpos/Visa gift cards, the category cards carry no purchase fee, so the bonus isn't eroded before you start.
The return, worked out¶
1,000 Flybuys points converts to $5 in Flybuys Dollars (2,000 points = $10 off a shop). Because there's no purchase fee, the return is simply $5 divided by the card price:
| Card | Price | Bonus value | Return |
|---|---|---|---|
| $25 TCN Party | $25 | $5 | 20% |
| $40 TCN Party | $40 | $5 | 12.5% |
| $50 Teen / Her / Restaurant | $50 | $5 | 10% |
| $100 Her / Restaurant | $100 | $5 | 5% |
The bonus is a flat 1,000 points no matter which card you buy, so the cheapest eligible card always wins. The $25 Party card is the standout — 20% is unusually generous for a Flybuys gift card promotion.
Best-return play¶
- Buy 5 × $25 TCN Party cards. That's $125 out, the maximum the five-card limit allows on the best-value card.
- Collect 5,000 bonus Flybuys points = $25 in Flybuys Dollars.
- Spend the $125 of card value at a retailer in the TCN Party network you were going to shop at anyway — the network includes JB Hi-Fi and rebel, among others. Check the current list on the TCN site before buying, as accepted retailers change.
Net effect: 20% off $125 of spending you'd have done regardless. The catch is step 3 — the return is only real if you'll actually use the cards. Buying them to sit in a drawer just locks up cash at 0%.
What to avoid¶
- The $100 denominations. Same $5 bonus on double the outlay — a 5% return. Buy two $50s instead of one $100 if you need that much, or better, stick to the $25 Party card.
- TCN eftpos / Visa gift cards. These are the ones with purchase fees ($5.95 on $100, $7.95 on $200). The fee exceeds the bonus, so they lose money even with the 1,000 points. They are not part of this offer, but it's easy to grab the wrong TCN card at the rack.
- Treating it as free money. A closed-network card is only worth face value if you spend it in-network. If you don't shop at those retailers, the effective discount is zero.
Fine print¶
- In-store at Coles only for this offer.
- Five gift cards per Flybuys account.
- Deal runs 22-28 July 2026.
- Scan your Flybuys card at the checkout, and check the bonus points post before buying a second batch.
- Card balances are typically valid for around three years, so there's no rush to spend them once bought.
